The Five Item Categories
Items in Neon Abyss 2 are split into five categories. The category names come straight from Veewo's official update announcements, so they are the terms English-speaking players will see in patch notes and community guides:
| Category | Role and typical behavior |
|---|---|
| Curios | Crystal-fueled utility items that manipulate room drops and currency |
| Artifacts | Stat and mechanic modifiers; several interact with the set-bonus system |
| Relics | Run-defining build enablers that rewrite the rules of a run |
| Hexjars | Jars that "charge" a resource: weapon XP, Faith, body size, and more |
| Oddities | High-variance one-shot weirdness: summoning goose flocks, chests that confiscate items |
Veewo's official press materials put the total at over 400 items. Community datamines that count every entry — including pickups, badges, set bonuses, and character-exclusive items — push past 600, but that is a broader ledger than the "item" count above, so the two figures are not in conflict. Veewo has not published a complete in-game encyclopedia, but the item compendium at /database/items-list tracks every entry that has been catalogued so far.
Categories are not cosmetic
The Relic Empty Cup disables weapon leveling but still lets you walk into weapon-upgrade rooms. That is a fundamentally different tier of decision from the Artifact Squid Brooch, which merely tunes a number. Treat Relics as run contracts and Artifacts as parts — confusing the two gets runs killed.
Unlimited Stacking: What It Actually Means
Both the Steam store page and Veewo's website advertise the same pitch: unlimited item synergies, and "no limit to how many items you can wield." In practice, that promise reshapes how you build:
- Power comes from interaction density, not one god item. Mid- and late-run damage usually emerges from a chain reaction across a dozen items, not from a single overpowered drop.
- Resource conversion chains are the core design. A large share of items are essentially "convert resource A into resource B" (see the table below). A run's build is largely a list of which conversion chains you have switched on.
- Co-op is multiplication, not addition. Veewo's own description of four-player online co-op is that you "multiply each of your unique synergies." Four players each running a different build line produce far more combinations than one player stacking a single line.
- A bigger pool makes targeted pickups harder. No carry limit does not mean grab everything. The pickup-and-triage section below covers when to leave an item on the floor.
Item Effect Table (35 Items)
The first 24 entries come from the official Glimmer Heist update announcement (January 29, 2026 Steam news), the most detailed item breakdown Veewo has published to date; Veewo has not published their drop-pool details. The final 11 entries' effect text and drop pools come from game-data extraction and can each be verified in the in-game log.

Set Bonuses Are Real
Official marketing has never front-loaded the set system, but Royal Ring — "the number of pieces required to complete a set is reduced by 2" — confirms outright that sets exist. Veewo has not published a full set list or the exact trigger conditions, so when you pick up an Artifact flagged with a set affiliation, treat it as a hidden build line worth committing to. Fixed weapon affixes, Reforge, and Vaporize live in a separate system; see /systems/weapons.
Classic Synergy Combos
These nine combos are built from the table above — build ideas, not fixed recipes:
| Combo | Items involved | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Crystal Economy Engine | Cosmic Pouch + Blackbrew + Firecracker | Crystals → drops → Artifacts, crystals → bombs, bombs → chests. One chain loops the entire room cycle and snowballs your resources the longer a floor runs. |
| Faith Burst Line | Purity Sigil + Candle Jar | The Candle Jar fills your Faith gauge on demand; the Purity Sigil converts that Faith into damage and an extra projectile. Pairs with the full Faith system — see /systems/faith. |
| Turret Mode | Ghost Proxy + Beep Watch | Move speed feeds fire rate, then standing still stacks fire rate on top. Built for melee weapons or high-per-shot guns that trade hits up close. |
| Relic Conversion Arbitrage | Kane's Cube + Philosopher's Stone + Royal Ring | Two separate routes turn Relics and Extraction into Artifacts, feeding Royal Ring's set compression. Artifact density explodes in the back half of a run. |
| Coin Discipline | Squid Brooch | Demands you hold 300+ coins permanently. Skip it on floors where you plan to spend big — below 100 coins it is a penalty, not a bonus. |
| Punishment Reactor | Goose + Orange Cat | Both trigger on taking a hit: the geese counterattack while the roulette rolls. Ideal for high-forgiveness builds and pairs beautifully with invulnerability items. |
| Explosive Artistry | Bouncing Betty + Firecracker | Bouncing Betty supplies the payload; Firecracker turns bomb output into a chest source. Dedicated wall-breaking and snowballing. |
| Haul & Duplicate Kit | Glass Jar + Express Box + Goblin Chest | Glass Jar banks items, Express Box packs the whole room, Goblin Chest gambles on duplication. The more items you hold, the more this kit earns. |
| Hatchmon Ecosystem | Bottle Rose + Carrot Police Badge | Bottle Rose spawns wild Hatchmon from obstacles; Carrot Police Badge pushes incubation progress whenever a chest roulette succeeds. Full details on the Hatchmon page. |
Pickup Triage: Three Decision Scenarios
- Squid Brooch asks for discipline, not damage. The +30% is real, but only if you commit to sitting above 300 coins forever. On any floor where you intend to spend big, the brooch is working against you.
- Empty Cup is a contract signed for the whole run. Disabling weapon leveling means all output rides on item synergy and base weapon performance. Before you commit, confirm you already hold at least 2–3 Artifacts that form a coherent engine.
- Do not spin Kane's Cube carelessly. Converting a Relic is one-way, and rule-changing Relics (Empty Cup, Philosopher's Stone) are often the spine of the build itself — converting them dismantles the skeleton. Its best use is liquidating off-line Relics you picked up by accident.
General Triage Rules
- Set the main line before grabbing parts. Decide at the start whether the run is about firepower, economy, or Faith, and leave unrelated items on the floor to keep the pool focused.
- Judge conditional items by the build. Squid Brooch is a pure loss below its threshold; a high-variance Oddity like Goblin Chest is only worth gambling once you have items to spare.
- Read Relics as rules changes, not stat sticks. One wrong Relic can sink half a run.
- Crystals are the universal currency. Most Curios burn crystals, so do not spend them early — saving for creation engines like Glass Die or Cosmic Pouch pays better.
- Split build lines in co-op. Four players stacking the same category is waste; divide by weapon type and synergy line to actually trigger the "multiply each of your unique synergies" effect.
- Let the Ban system catch your misses. The pre-1.0 major updates added a Ban system covering items, weapons, Faith, and even rooms, so forcing a specific build costs far less than it did at Early Access launch.
Bottom line: what is unlimited is the item count, not your judgment. Treat the crystal economy engine and set compression (Royal Ring) as the skeleton of a build, then hang everything else off that skeleton — it beats grabbing whatever glows.
