Floor Structure and the New Gods
Every floor of the abyss in Neon Abyss 2 is ruled by a New God, and every boss fight is an act of deicide. The structure of the main run reads directly off the Steam achievement list — the game has 7 Pass Levels, each tied to a progression achievement:
| Achievement | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Into the Abyss | Clear Pass Level 1 |
| In the Zone | Clear Pass Level 2 |
| Baptism of Fire | Clear Pass Level 3 |
| Chaos Unleashed | Clear Pass Level 4 |
| The Heretic Awakens | Clear Pass Level 5 |
| Prelude to Deicide | Clear Pass Level 6 |
| New Gods' Demise | Clear Pass Level 7 |
| (Theia achievement) | Added in 1.0 — defeat Theia |
Pass Level 7 is the deepest node flagged by the achievement system; the endgame fight against Theia sits beyond it. Two officially defined boss tiers matter for planning:
- Regular Bosses — the standard floor rulers you fight on a normal run.
- Manager Bosses — a tier the developers singled out in the Fatal Carnival update announcement, sitting above Regular Bosses and gating the end of the unlock chain.
Per the creative director's public statements, every boss is built on a randomized moveset system: the same boss can open with different attack combinations on two separate encounters. Rote memorization of fixed patterns is deliberately devalued — reading telegraphs and build strength matter more.
Note: Veewo has never published a floor-to-boss table. Where a boss's floor is unknown, this page says so plainly.

Boss Unlock Chain
Officially confirmed conditions

|---|---|---|
| Hermes | Defeat Hyperion | Fatal Carnival update announcement (2025-11-27) |
| Athena | Defeat Zeus | Fatal Carnival update announcement (2025-11-27) |
Full chain (community guide record)
The main-line chain documented by community guides runs:
- Defeat Trojan → unlocks Talos
- Defeat Talos → unlocks Apollo
- Defeat Apollo → unlocks Eris
- Defeat Eris with a full Psychedelism Faith bar and the Acid Token butterfly in hand → unlocks Dark Eris
- Defeat Dark Eris → unlocks Hyperion (this step is corroborated in reverse by Hermes's official condition)
- Defeat Hyperion → unlocks Hermes (officially confirmed)
- Defeat Zeus (returning boss from the first game) → unlocks Athena (officially confirmed)
- What sits beyond Prometheus is speculation even among guide authors — treat it as unmapped until verified in-game.
One practical observation for route planning: Pass Level 5 rolls randomly between Talos and Trojan, so never plan your build around a fixed boss identity for that floor.
Faith is hard-wired to the boss chain
Step 4 requires a full Psychedelism Faith bar plus the Acid Token butterfly, which means boss progression is deeply bound to the Faith system. If you want to push the main chain, start banking Faith values and tokens from the mid-game onward instead of tunnel-visioning on raw damage. See the item list for the relevant pickups.
Boss-by-Boss Breakdowns
Under the randomized-moveset design, the order of attacks changes every encounter, but each individual attack has a fixed wind-up. Each entry below follows the same structure: role and source → floor → phases → attacks and dodges → recommended damage windows. Where Veewo has published no data, that is stated.
God of Hackers
- Role: Regular Boss, confirmed via the achievement list.
- Floor: Not published by Veewo.
- Phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: No official moveset table. A hacker theme usually means heavy add summons and bullet-screen clutter — clear the summons first and burn the body second, and don't let the visual noise herd you around the arena.
- Damage window: With random movesets, the most reliable window is the recovery frame — the moment a bullet wave ends and the boss pauses. That's when you commit to point-blank burst.
God of AI
- Role: Regular Boss, confirmed via the achievement list.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. A predictive boss reads your movement, so the counter is to stop moving in straight lines — take zigzag paths or orbit the arena and let its aim whiff.
- Damage window: After a prediction misses, the AI needs a beat to re-acquire you. That re-aim window is a fixed health-trading opportunity.
GOD OF EDM
- Role: Regular Boss, confirmed via the achievement list.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. Rhythm-styled bullet patterns fire on a steady beat — park yourself for one full cycle to learn the tempo before you start dodging. Watching first is far safer than improvising mid-fight.
- Damage window: When the gaps between waves are fixed, "one volley, one step" keeps your damage uptime near total.
God of Psychedelia
- Role: Regular Boss, confirmed via the achievement list.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. Visual-distortion attacks come with long cast animations, and the boss body is usually stationary during the show. Track the body, not the bullets — you'll find windows you can't see by watching the projectiles.
Dark Eris
- Role: Regular Boss (alternate form), confirmed via the achievement list; gatekeeper link in the chain, requiring full Psychedelism Faith plus the Acid Token butterfly.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. She out-densities everything before her in the chain — prioritize mobility and flight items over pure damage here.
- Damage window: The phase-transition cutscene is the safest heal-and-burst window in the whole fight. Bank your potions and burst cooldowns for it.
Hyperion
- Role: Regular Boss, confirmed via the achievement list; the gate to Hermes.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. An entertainment-god theme means flashy, varied set pieces, but most showpiece attacks have generous gaps. Calm footwork beats panic-dashing and saves your resources.
- Damage window: During long showpiece casts the body is usually exposed. Strafe along the side where bullets spawn so your reaction distance stays minimal.
Hermes
- Role: Manager Boss, confirmed in the official Fatal Carnival announcement; unlocks after Hyperion.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. However fast he moves, the rule holds: hold arena center instead of chasing — let him deliver his attacks into positions you actually like.
- Damage window: His windows cluster on the recovery from each attack. The moment a landing zone appears, sidestep behind the bullet line and fire back the other way.
Athena
- Role: Manager Boss (Archenemy Returns DLC roster), confirmed in the official Fatal Carnival announcement; unlocks after Zeus.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. As a DLC gatekeeper, lock your build in on the floors before her — don't walk into a Manager room with a half-built loadout.
- Damage window: A shop floor usually precedes DLC boss fights. Spend upgrade resources on weapon stats and shield items rather than gambling on drops mid-run.
God of Stand-Up
- Role: Regular Boss, confirmed in the official Fatal Carnival announcement.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. His attacks follow a setup–punchline rhythm: a deceptively safe-feeling setup, then one heavy hit. When you see the setup animation, leave your position early — don't wait for the bullets to appear before reacting.
- Damage window: The whiff-recovery after a punchline is the main window. During the heavy hit itself, survival comes first.
Prometheus
- Role: Returning Titan, confirmed in the Glimmer Heist announcement (2026-01-29).
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. Titan-class bulk means large areas and long wind-ups — for wide attacks, orbit the arena edge and never cut across the middle.
- Damage window: Long wind-up means long recovery. Disengage fully during the cast, then re-enter during the stagger. Skipping one volley of greed is cheaper than eating a hit.
Lisa, Goddess of the Gallery
- Role: Regular Boss; the Glimmer Heist announcement explicitly calls her a "new regular God" — a standard floor ruler, not endgame content.
- Floor / phases: Not published.
- Attacks and dodges: Not published. Gallery theme plus randomized movesets means frequent attack swaps within one fight. Treat every encounter as a fresh boss: spend the first 30 seconds reading this run's moveset, then commit to a rhythm.
- Damage window: Every randomized-moveset boss has a loop gap — the beat between two consecutive attacks. Find this run's gap and build your damage rotation around it.
Theia, Goddess of Vanity
- Role: 1.0 final boss, confirmed by both the official 1.0 announcement and the achievement list. See the dedicated section below.
- Floor: The endgame fight following Pass Level 7 (New Gods' Demise).
- Phases: Officially confirmed as three phases.
- Attacks and dodges: Every attack across all three phases carries blinding flashes and mirror-shatter audio — phase-by-phase below.
Final Boss: Theia, Goddess of Vanity
New with the 1.0 launch (2026-10-08). Key official details:
- One of the primordial Greek Titans, mother of Helios, Selene, and Eos.
- Her visual design is built from shattered mirrors, razor-edged gems, and blinding neon halos; the launch trailer shows rainbow-colored eye-beam attacks.
- The fight is officially three phases, and every attack is paired with blinding flashes and mirror-shatter sound effects — deliberately engineered to break your bullet reading.
Tip: Theia's constant strobing wrecks projectile readability. Photosensitive players should lower flash intensity, trim particle effects, and dim brightness before the attempt. Flashes hit on every attack in all three phases — "can't see clearly" is the default state, so the strategy below is built around staying effective when you can't read the screen.
Phase-by-phase breakdown
Veewo has not published a per-phase moveset, so treat exact attack differences as encounter-dependent. Recommended decision path:
Phase 1 — Probe and set the rhythm
- Spend the first 20–30 seconds on movement and observation. Identify this run's moveset before dumping ammo.
- When a flash fires, lock onto the boss body, not the bullets — the body is relatively stationary while the screen whites out, and it's your anchor for re-orienting.
- Your goal this phase is mapping the loop gap between attacks. Every later damage rotation hangs off that gap.
Phase 2 — Pressure and resource management
- Bullet density rises. Save shield/invulnerability items for the one attack you can't read — never spend defensive resources on attacks you can already dodge.
- Healing is pinned to the phase-transition animation — the stagger during a transition is the safest heal window in the fight. Don't drink at high health.
- In co-op, revives outrank damage. Theia's revive windows are short, and entering phase 3 one Agent down is close to a death sentence.
Phase 3 — Burst and disengage
- Enter the final phase with mobility weapons or shield items as a prerequisite — half the arena time is unreadable here, and a pure turret build pays a brutal tax.
- Shift to "one full rotation, then leave": hug the bullet-spawn side for one loop, then blink to the far side and wait out the next cycle. Don't chase sustained point-blank uptime.
- Never get greedy at low health. Flashes are densest in the final stretch — fill each window fully, then disengage, trading rounds for consistency.
Photosensitivity and hardware
The Theia fight runs constant high-intensity strobing with sharp shatter audio throughout. Players with any photosensitivity history should adjust display settings before attempting it; everyone else should lock in a stable framerate first — dropped frames cause more misreads than bullets do.
Returning Bosses: Archenemy Returns
"All 34 bosses from the original Neon Abyss are making their return" is an official number, stated in Veewo's press materials and on the official social account. How it lands:
- They return through the free Archenemy Returns DLC, with skill optimizations, upgraded visual effects, and full redesigns for the Manager-tier fights. Free permanently for players who bought the base game during Early Access; paid DLC after the 1.0 launch.
- The returning Greek-god lineup includes Ares, Athena, Zeus, and Aphrodite; Veewo has not published the full 34-name list individually. At rollout, the original's 24 Regular Bosses were complete, with the 11 Managers arriving in stages.
Zeus is more than nostalgia — he's the official prerequisite for unlocking Athena, so pushing the Manager chain forces you to work through the returning roster.
General Boss Strategy
- Don't memorize patterns — read telegraphs. Individual attacks have fixed wind-ups. "See the raise, then dash" is far more reliable than memorizing rotation tables.
- Bank mobility for dense waves. Dash and flight items out-prioritize raw damage. Strafe along the bullet-spawn side so reaction distance stays minimal.
- Heal on phase transitions. The stagger or cutscene at a transition is the safest heal window in any fight. Don't waste potions above half health.
- Save shields for the unreadable attack. Holding a shield/invulnerability charge for the one move you can't parse beats spreading protection evenly.
- Coordinate with Faith. The boss chain is hard-wired to Faith progression (Dark Eris demands a full Psychedelism bar). Consciously stack the relevant Faith values in the mid-game instead of staring at sheet DPS. Details in Faith.
- Divide roles in co-op. In 4-player runs, let the hatch-focused teammate shepherd the Hatchmon and keep pets alive while the damage dealers push phase transitions — this alone meaningfully cuts final-floor wipes. See co-op.
